Sadly, pets are often the forgotten victims of abuse, with many being injured or even killed to control family members. Before Pet Refuge opened, families trying to leave their abusers were faced with an impossible decision: leave their beloved fur-baby behind to secure their own safety in emergency housing, or stay and risk both of their lives. A Women’s Refuge survey showed 53% chose to stay.
Now, Pet Refuge removes this barrier, by offering a safe, temporary home while their owners escape abuse, with the end goal of reuniting pets with their families once safe, long-term accommodation is found.
